Suspect In Cheerleader's Death Denied Bond

UNION, S.C. -- A judge decided Thursday to deny bond to a woman who is accused of helping her husband stab a high school cheerleader to death.Marisha Jeter was a Union County High School cheerleader. After her death in January, Jeter's body was dumped in the Broad River.Manning Jeter had some harsh words for Yolanda Thompson at a bond hearing on Monday.
"She helped murder my baby," Jeter told the judge. "I have no remorse for her."On Thursday, the judge announced his decision to deny bond for Thompson because the Solicitor's Office is trying to determine whether to seek the death penalty.The judge said that if the Solicitor's Office doesn't make a decision by January, Thompson can request another bond hearing.Prosecutors said Thompson, who was 19 when Jeter was killed, confessed to holding down the teenager while her husband, Pernell Thompson, 20, stabbed her to death.The Thompsons are accused of throwing Jeter's body in the Broad River and burning her car.

Jeter's body was found by art students taking pictures of the river.According to investigators, Pernell Thompson had a relationship with Marisha Jeter while he was married to Yolanda Thompson. He killed Jeter to prove his love to his wife, prosecutors said.Pernell Thompson had been a football player at Wingate University for three seasons. Wingate University is located 35 miles east of Charlotte, N.C. He was an all-state player in his senior season at Jonesville High School and he made the all-state academic team three years in a row.Manning Jeter is a former trustee on the Union County School Board.Previous Story:
