Falcons Sign TE Pollard, Release Cooper

(Sports Network) - The Atlanta Falcons signed veteran tight end Marcus Pollard on Sunday and released tight end George Cooper.

Pollard, 36, was signed by New England as a free agent in April, but released by the Patriots on August 20. He spent last season with the Seattle Seahawks and caught 28 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games.

Pollard played 10 of his 13 NFL seasons in Indianapolis and is firmly cemented in the Colts' record books. He ranks second among the franchise's tight ends in receptions (263), third in yards (3,391) and third in touchdowns (35).

In 191 career games with the Colts, Lions and Seahawks, Pollard has 349 catches for 4,280 yards and 40 scores.

Cooper was signed by the Falcons as a free agent in June 2007, and spent the that season on the practice squad. He was released this past June, and signed again on August 4.
