Woman, 21, Charged In Fatal Moped Crash

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A 21-year-old Greenville woman faces multiple charges, including reckless homicide, in connection with a fatal moped accident on Sunday.Greenville police said that 55-year-old Mark Theodore Freeman of Greenville was riding his moped on Augusta Street when he was hit from behind.Freeman was thrown from his moped and died at the scene from blunt force injuries, according to the coroner.
Friday, Greenville Police said that Sarina Mary Ruth Arnold was driving the car that hit Freeman.In addition to the reckless homicide charge, Arnold was charged with driving too fast for conditions, operating an unsafe vehicle, driving under suspension, operating an uninsured vehicle, a headlight violation and a beginner's permit violation.According to an arrest warrant, a witness said that Arnold was driving erratically and swerved to pass a car in the right-hand lane of Augusta Road.Arnold's car hit Freeman's moped, knocking him to the roadway. The moped was dragged for more than 100 feet.Arnold was jailed at the Greenville County Detention Center on a bond of $21,900.
