GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A week after the man who killed Tiffany Souers pleaded guilty, he was back in court Wednesday as his defense team lodged a complaint about the coverage of the trial.Circuit Judge Ned Miller denied the motion by Jerry Buck Inman's lawyers to keep cameras out of his Sept. 8 sentencing. But Miller did ban any live feed of the proceedings. His decision follows WYFF4.com's online livestream of the plea hearing last week that inadvertently included video from the courtroom before the court proceedings began.
Inman's attorney argued that someone might have heard something that would violate attorney-client privilege.Miller said the proceedings are in the sentencing phase and there is no jury to be prejudiced.Addressing Inman's defense team, Miller said, "It's upon you to show that there is prejudice and the prejudice to you would be that the state would learn something about your conduct of your defense to your detriment or that I would hear something and as a fact-finder be prejudice. I don't believe that that's going to occur and I've taken every step to make sure it does not."But the judge did agree to have a third party look into what might have been heard by staff members and determine if it has any relevance to the proceedings.Jerry Buck Inman, 37, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting and strangling Tiffany Marie Souers in her off-campus apartment in Central in May 2006. Souers was a 20-year-old engineering student at Clemson. (Full Story)
