More Layoffs Announced For Gaffney Truck Plant

GAFFNEY, S.C./ -- Another 225 workers at a Gaffney truck-chassis plant will lose their jobs next month.Freightliner Custom Chassis announced last moth that it would lay off 100 workers and combine shifts at the plant. Those layoffs are scheduled to take effect next week.The new round of job cuts will take effect Sept. 15, the company said.
The company said that the layoffs are necessary because of slowing demand for delivery vans and recreational vehicles.With the two round of layoffs, the company will employ about 475 workers.The plant makes chassis for delivery vans and small RVs as well as small school and shuttle buses.
