A traffic accident at Buncombe Street and Butler Avenue near downtown Greenville knocked out power for hours and caused some small brush fires.

Greenville City Police said a minivan hit a utility pole about 11 a.m., downing power lines at the intersection.

Sparking power lines set off some small brush fires and knocked out power to nearly 1,000 customers, including businesses, the Greenville County main library and several restaurants.

Traffic lights were out along Buncombe, Rutherford Street and a portion of Poinsett Highway.

Duke Energy said that all 940 customers were back in service shortly after 2 p.m.
