Father In Jail On Probation Violation Charge

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- A grand jury has indicted the father of 15-month-old girl who was killed by his gun.The grand jury in Rutherford County handed down true bill indictments for involuntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a felon against Andy Rhodes.A true bill is the written decision of a grand jury that believes it has heard sufficient evidence to establish that an accused person probably committed a crime and should be indicted.
Gracie Rhodes was shot and killed on June 26. Rhodes' family said that Andy Rhodes was fixing the gun, and he put the child in a highchair. They said when he picked up the gun to put it away, it went off accidentally.He was arrested by Rutherford County police two weeks ago on felony probation violation charges.After his daughter was shot, police discovered that he was a convicted felon and was not allowed to have a gun.Jonathan Rhodes was taken to the Rutherford County Jail. He will be served with the two new indictments once they are received by the sheriff's office.
