Deputies Arrest Man Charged With Assaulting Mother

MAULDIN, S.C. -- A man accused of tying up his mother and threatening to kill her was arrested early Tuesday morning by Greenville County deputies.

Police said after Bruce Allen Donovan, 37, assaulted his mother and threatened her with a knife, he took off in her SUV. His mother was able to free herself and called 911.

Investigators said that after taking the vehicle, Donovan used a credit card that was inside it.

Officers said they spotted Donovan on Monday afternoon, but he failed to stop when pursued and was able to elude police.

He was arrested in the car at about 2 a.m. along South Pleasantburg Drive.

Deputies said that they got a report from someone who had seen Donovan's picture in a news report and were able to capture him without incident.

Donovan is in the Greenville County Detention Center, facing charges of kidnapping, assault and battery with intent to kill, armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, failure to stop for blue lights and financial card fraud.
