Queen of the Penny Pinchers, Brandy Long, has some tips for more than just grocery shopping or travel bargains. This week she is tackling the garage.
Ask Brandy A Question
Tired of spending money replacing rusty tools?
After cleaning them with a little steel wool, try coating them with at thin topping of petroleum jelly and they will never rust again.(A quick hint that will make using a saw easier: a little kerosene on the blade of your hand saw will act as a lubricant and minimize hours huffing and puffing on tight cuts.)Make sure you won't have to replace items damaged by screws that come loose.
Just put a drop or two of clear nail polish into the hole before you finish tightening the screw. It won't pop loose again.Rust in your toolbox?
Just slip a piece of charcoal or chalk or mothballs into the toolbox.Want an easy and cheap way to clean golf balls?
Clean golf balls easily by soaking them overnight in a HEAVY solution of ammonia and hot water. No scrubbing necessary!Want to avoid insects without buying expensive repellant?
Apply undiluted vinegar to the skin with a cotton ball to deter mosquitoes and insects. They hate the way you taste, but the odor disappears quickly from your skin.
