Freak Accident Kills 35-Year-Old

Window Frame Gives Way; Man Killed In Fall

POSTED: 8:47 am EDT May 19, 2008

A Greenville man was killed over the weekend when a window frame gave way causing him to fall two stories.

Deputy Coroner Tony Segars said that 35-year-old Gregory Denisowski was trying to close a stuck window in his condominium on West Court Street when he fell shortly before 5 a.m. on Sunday.

Friends who were at the condo told investigators Denisowski stood on a stool to try to use his weight to push down the window.

Greenville police Cpl. Jason Rampey said, "When he did that, apparently the stool may have gave way. He slipped and fell outward, outside the building to the sidewalk below."

Segars said the window came out of the frame and Denisowski fell with it all the way to the sidewalk below, about 18 feet. He died at the scene.

An autopsy found that Denisowski's death was accidental, due to injuries suffered in the fall.

Rampey said, "At this point in the investigation it just looks like a freak accident -- a very unfortunate accident."

Denisowski had family in town visiting from Charleston at the time of the accident. Any other information is being withheld out of deference to them.

None of the residents of the Court Street condominiums would speak to WYFF News 4 on camera. An e-mail from the condo board that was obtained by News 4 asked residents of the condo not to speak to media, saying, "This is to honor Greg's memory, to protect Angela (his wife) from invasion of her privacy at this sad time, and to protect us, as well, from unwanted and unwelcome publicity."
