Warriors Re-Sign G Ellis

POSTED: 11:04 pm EDT July 24, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Golden State Warriors re-signed guard Monta Ellis, executive vice president of basketball operations Chris Mullin announced on Thursday.

According to the Mercury News, it is a six-year deal worth $66 million.

The 22-year-old Ellis averaged a career-high 20.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.53 steals in 81 games last season.

Originally selected out of high school by the Warriors as the 40th overall selection in the 2005 NBA Draft, Ellis was named the NBA's Most Improved Player following the 2006-2007 season.

Following the departure of guard Baron Davis, who signed with the cross-town rival LA Clippers this off-season, Ellis is expected to play a bigger role in the club's backcourt.
