Anderson County, S.C. -- School is starting for students in the Carolinas and Georgia this week, and deputies are sending out a warning to protect them. Principals in Anderson County got an eight page list of names and addresses of the 425 sex offenders registered in Anderson County. Chief Deputy Creed Hashe says with students walking to school or waiting for the bus, there’s always a chance for crime.
Hashe says, “We take it very seriously and we’re constantly trying to monitor these individuals to make sure they follow the provisions of the law.” Right now, the Anderson County Sheriff’s office says 16 sex offenders have failed to register in the county. Warrants are out for their arrest. The state asks counties to send out the sex offender lists to schools and daycares. The South Carolina Sex Offender Registry can also be accessed online.
